As a director, I strive for a community of collaboration, consent, and growth. I believe that theatre has the opportunity to teach at all stages. Therefore, while I value the product, I have a vested interest in the process for my actors and production team. I believe that reshaping and rethinking the rehearsal room per a new script is essential. Each new project brings fresh ideas and strategies for creating a memorable show for an audience and furthering the education of the actors, crew, and production team members.
Additionally, my scholarship and creative practice inform one another, and I investigate how theatre can bring forth thought-provoking moments. I am deeply engaged with queer issues and with theatre that invokes social change, two aspects I try to bring to my projects. Furthermore, I believe that at its heart, theatre is about storytelling and bringing those stories to multiple perspectives. In thinking about storytelling, I value the voices of a vast, multicultural, and diverse population both in casting and the material presented for audiences.
Theatre at its core is not only meant to entertain but also educate. I hope that all involved in the theatrical process walk away with knowledge they did not have before engagement.
